RSC president Prof. Evgeny Shlyakhto is honoured with the ESC Gold Medal

Prof. Evgeny Shlyakhto, MD, PhD, FESC, FACC, president of the Russian Society of Cardiology and director general of the Almazov National Medical Research Centre (Saint-Petersburg) will be awarded with the Gold Medal of the European Society of Cardiology at the annual ESC Congress in Munich (August 25-29, 2018). This exciting news was announced by the ESC president Prof. Jeroen J. Bax during his visit to St. Petersburg last week.

The ESC Gold Medal is the highest honor and international recognition of the outstanding achievements in cardiology and scientific excellence that European Society can bestow exceptional scientists for their contribution to the world cardiovascular medicine.

Since 1968 the European Society of Cardiology has recognized multiple outstanding scientists and clinicians: in different years among laureates were Profs. Eugene Braunwald (USA), Philip Poole-Wilson (UK), Valentine Fuster (USA), Salim Yusuf (Canada), Peter Sleight (UK), Pedro Brugada (Spain), Alain Carpentier (France). Until today the only Russian cardiologist honoured with this award was Prof. Evgeny Chazov (Moscow).
