Over half (60%) of individuals with heart disease and up to half of those who have had a stroke may not be receiving any of the 4 types of drug – antiplatelet agents, β-blockers, RAAS inhibitors, and statins – that are effective treatments for these conditions, according to PURE (Prospective Urban Rural Epidemiology), an international study on CV drug use showing that these inexpensive drugs are being substantially underutilized worldwide.
